Colas secures new contract to deliver new signs and signals across the strategic road network
Colas has been awarded a place on National Highways’ Operational Roadside Technology (ORT0175) Signs & Signals contract, strengthening its long‑term role in supporting the operation and management of England’s strategic road network.
Over the next six years, Colas will be responsible for supplying signs and signalling units across the motorway and trunk road network in England. With approximately 2,000 units to be delivered, Colas will also provide long‑term warranties and ongoing training to maximise asset performance throughout their lifecycle.
For over a decade, Colas has been a key supplier of variable message signs (VMS), with a proven track record in delivering signs, signals and associated technology. Under the previous ORT0003 Signs and Signals contract, Colas supplied National Highways with 575 signs and signals and 401 controllers, supporting effective network operations.
Under the new framework, Colas will deploy its in‑house developed and manufactured controller to manage the interfaces required for VMS. Working in partnership with Aesys, a specialist sign manufacturer, Colas and National Highways are introducing the latest VMS technology to the network, helping to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.
Thierry Madelon, Chief Executive Officer of Colas, said:
“This new contract builds on Colas’ long-standing relationship with National Highways, delivering specialist infrastructure solutions at a national scale. We’re delighted to continue working together for another six years, using our established expertise in operational roadside technology to support the safe and efficient operation of the network.”
