Safety
At Colas, safety is our first priority. Our ‘back to basics’ approach focuses on the underlying frameworks of our health and safety system. Throughout the year we promote various aspects of health, safety, and wellbeing, continue to run new initiatives, and ensure our underlying systems are fit for purpose and robust, and that our incident management system continues to improve incident reporting and raise the visibility of reporting, helping us identify improvements to our systems and processes relating to safety and investigate incidents thoroughly, identifying what could be done different and taking steps to prevent it happening again.
Award Winning Safety
Organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice. Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants vie to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running H&S industry awards.
This year, Colas has been awarded an Order of Distinction for health and safety performance, acknowledging our achievement of 16 consecutive Gold award, and a seventeeth consecutive RoSPA President's Fleet Safety Gold Award. Gold medals are only presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years.
SAID +
Colas’ SAID (safer attitudes in driving) campaign was originally launched in 2002, and then re-launched as SAID+ in 2015, to improve the safety of Colas’ employees on the road and to heighten their awareness of circumstances they can control to prevent vehicle incidents occurring.
Colas’ approach to managing occupational road risk and road safety is distinguished by the evolution in attitude within the company’s core culture towards road safety. This core change has been driven by the Colas SAID+ campaign and has instilled the fundamental belief that all motor incidents are avoidable.
Global Safety Week
Each year we support the Colas Global safety week, this highlights the importance of safety to Colas across the world with a specific focus each year. We highlight the ongoing importance of health & safety to all of our colleagues.
The ‘Safety Attitude’ is at the heart of Colas' global safety policy. The cornerstone of this drive rests on the conviction that safety on work sites and on the road is a matter of daily behaviour that involve every employee. More than a priority, safety is a genuine corporate value and managers are asked to get involved personally and set the example.
