Surfacing Sub Agent

Location: Newcastle

Safety

  • - Promote the reporting of Near Miss Incidents.
  • - Undertake 12 M.S.Os (2 per month).
  • - Prepare and update all site specific RAMS.
  • - Ensure RAMS are available on site for review and all workforce are familiar with them.
  • - Identify training needs for the Foreman and crews and liaise with the Training Department to ensure timely delivery.
  • - Promote and identify innovations in working practices.
  • - Zero LTI’s.
  • - To ensure that all operations carried out within your area of responsibility are undertaken with full regard for safety of visitors, other members of staff and yourself.

Quality

  • - Ensure right first time approach to all work. Zero defects.
  • - Assure records are completed with no errors and handed to end user in required timescales.
  • - Promote and encourage within the workforce the need to provide a quality job with zero workmanship defects and carry out checks on working practices.
  • - Identify and promote innovations in working practices.

Programme

  • - Attend buildability meetings and assist in the agreement of output, programming and assignment of resources to each scheme.
  • - Liaise with the Colas North bid team, Colas Business Units, A-one+ and 3rd party Clients in the planning and delivery of surfacing activities.
  • - Attend all necessary progress meetings with Colas Business Units, A-one+ and 3rd party Clients to enhance relationships wherever possible.
  • - Minimise any stand down time by identifying opportunities to redeploy resources into other work streams (including but not restricted to: Colas TM and A-one+ routine & lump sum works).
  • - Identify and promote innovations in working practices.
  • - Produce a laying plan for complex schemes.

Main Activities

  • - Provide leadership and direction to the surfacing Foremen & gangs to ensure the safe and efficient discharge of the works to specification.
  • - Ensure that the correct standard of the required PPE is worn and that all personnel positively reflect the Company.
  • - Assure all site specific method statements are relayed to all personnel by the Surfacing Foreman.
  • - Guarantee all personnel are properly inducted on site in line with the induction policy and that the Foreman have records.
  • - Carry out a minimum of 12 managing safety observations per calendar year.    
  • - Ensure all personnel understand that they need to have a flexible approach to their work and they are expected to carry out other duties other than laying surfacing materials.
  • - Assure works have an official instruction prior to undertaking. All such works must be subject to a measure.
  • - Guarantee site photographs are taken by yourself and the Surfacing Foreman.
  • - Ensure all procurement of materials, plant and subcontractors in liaison with the commercial team.
  • - Liaising with batching plant for material deliveries, quantities and times for site precise timing.
  • - Undertake ad hoc checks to ensure all plant and transport is kept in a serviceable condition, clean and defect free.
  • - Identify trends in poor quality or late records and develop corrective action plan.
  • - Assure all laying logs are recorded along with temperature checks of materials.
  • - Effective workforce management either through self or direct reports, in line with Company procedures to include absence management and completion of Return to Work Forms.
  • - Conducting investigation interviews including those which may lead to potential disciplinary action.  
  • - To carry out other appropriate duties as assigned by your line manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications
  • - Construction qualification (HNC or equivalent).
  • - SMSTS.
  • - SSSTS.
  • - Membership of relevant professional body (CIHT, CIOB, IAT).
Experience
  • - Demonstrable experience in surfacing operations in a similar role (5 years).
  • - Significant experience of working on high speed networks (2 years).
  • - Good work ethic.
  • - In Depth knowledge of Health and safety (IOSH Certificate).
  • - Experience of working on HA MAC and LA contracts.
  • - Clean full driving licence.
