We currently have an opportunity available within our highly innovative Integrated Transport Systems (ITS) area of the business, which specialises in the use of smart technology and systems for traffic signalling, traffic monitoring and enforcement cameras, variable message signs, access control systems, street lighting and ancillary roadside equipment. Colas has invested in developing the next generation of traffic solutions with the amazing potential of our Wattway solar panel road surface already being recognised – delivering more efficient and safer journeys for road users.

About the Role

Working as part of a team you will be responsible for the installation of street lighting equipment and associated street furniture nationwide.  Much of the work will be in the south of England but there may be requirement to travel nationwide and to stay away on occasions. To provide support to the street lighting and wider ITS business to ensure works are completed efficiently, on time and in accordance with the specifications provided.

You’ll be expected to ensure that all operations carried out within street lighting are undertaken with full regard for the safety of staff, contractors, members of the public and yourself. And ensure all activities carried out within street lighting are undertaken with due regard for the environment, to prevent pollution, comply with legal and corporate requirements and minimise environmental impact.

You will:

  • Support all aspects of company H&S;
  • Work independently or as part of a team installing a variety of street lighting equipment on the highway.
  • Responsible for recording and reporting any site issues or variations that may become obvious to the line manager.

About you

Ideally, you’ll have experience of working in a Local Authority and/or Highways England environment and of highway electrical or civils related construction techniques. You’ll have effective time management techniques are required to ensure works are completed within defined timescales. And be able to manage your own activities via consultation with line manager.

You’ll ideally be able to demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

  • NRSWA
  • CSCS or ECS Card
  • G39
  • Crane Operator and/or slinger (desirable)
  • IPAF (desirable)
  • IT literate with a basic capability of Microsoft applications.
  • Full clean UK driving license essential
  • Flexible working attitude (including limited nights away)
  • Comfortable working at heights.
