About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a National Technical Manager to work out of our Birmingham office.

The National Technical Manager is in charge of all Technical Departments for COLAS UK, supporting the Group strategy, ensuring that all areas of responsibility are executed in a safe and efficient manner, as per legislation and Group rules. Providing a full and comprehensive proactive technical support service to Operations for tenders, site preparation and site follow ups, championing Operational Excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage of the product development program under the supervision of the governance committee
  • Manage control of all testing equipment of all laboratories though the labs managers (Audits & cross testing sessions)
  • Manage the team to properly use statistical tools to analyze raw materials and final products trends

  • Ensure material quality is consistent and meets the expected level of compliance, ensure full compliance with all QA & QC requirements
  • Manage relevant training program for their team in connection with the COLAS UK Training Department
  • Manage Technical Department Budget (CAPEX and OPEX)
  • Issue a quarterly activity report of the Technical Department to the management

About you

The post holder will need to demonstrate they have the combination of industry experience including asphalts, surface treatments & road binders. Along with maturity of personality and character to handle the responsibilities of this role, You will need the energy and drive necessary to lead the team and carry out the wide range of duties entailed, including, at times, extensive travel within the UK as well as overseas. You will have the ability to inspire, generate and maintain dynamism, growing a clear sense of purpose in individuals, through directing their output towards the business needs and targets

You will also have:

  • Engineering qualification or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials
  • Minimum 5 years as Technical manager in a similar activity field
  • Experience in leading a team within Bitumen, or construction or road industry
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Excellent contractual and commercial awareness
  • Knowledge / Experience in bitumen industry or road industry
  • Ability to communicate, lead, manage and to be passionate about COLAS UK
  • Capacity to represent COLAS UK in the Industry, in the Group, in National committees
