About the Role

We are looking to recruit a full time Mobile Applications developer to join the new Software Development team at Colas UK. Currently this role will be fully remote but we’re flexible and can accommodate any UK location for this role.

Our department is responsible for software and app development across Colas UK. We have one large codebase we maintain that runs several contracts in two countries which the mobile element is Android, and we are building greenfield apps to help the business which will incorporate mobile elements.

Our motto is “Making simple things that make a BIG difference”. We want to help those in Colas and the wider Bouygues group with their job. Whilst we are primarily focused on the highways industry, if we uncover an idea that is outside of that that helps the business you can bring it to the table.

What we are looking for in you

We are looking to help someone grow and be a better developer by working with us. We need you to get stuck into projects, be self-sufficient and produce great looking and functioning code.

Having a real understanding of Android is a must. The main part of this role is managing, maintaining and building Android mobile apps. The scope for iOS is not currently there but this may be something we look at in the future. Also, any experience of PWA / hybrid apps would be a major asset.

Our mobile apps rely on a PHP backend API and we are looking for someone who can work with the web development team on the interfaces and API.

Knowledge of Git (GitHub / Bitbucket) is needed for code management, but we are not expecting a CLI Git ninja (it would be great if you are!).

The team uses cloud services (Azure) and is in control of its own infrastructure, rather than deferring to Colas UK IT for support. If you have Dev Ops experience of skills that would be a great asset to helping the team. If you have experience with any specific IaC platforms like Terraform of Ansible let us know.
