Through our joint venture A-one+ we are responsible for managing and maintaining around 33% of the trunk road and motorway network.
Focussing on the safety of our workers and the road users, we are developing our staff to provide rapid and effective response for reducing congestion and improving journey time reliability. By placing the customer at the heart of everything we do we are delivering an increasingly high level of satisfaction.
We benchmark our performance across our 4 contracts and against nationwide best practice. We work closely with Highways England to deliver an integrated operation that provides a best value, sustainable and continually improving service.
Our innovative approach has been recognised through a range of industry awards. At the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards 2011 on the 12th October the main success was in the 'Highway Worker and Site Safety Initiative' category. This was in recognition of A-one+'s input into the development of the 'Intellicone' - an integrated safety solution which transforms typical road cones into an electronic safety perimeter. Judges commented that the 'Intellicone' is a good example of technology being used to aid the safety of road workers.
A-one+ were also commended in the category of 'Highway Industry Product of the Year'. This accolade was for their use of glass-resin reinforced polyester (GRP) sign material and their promotion of the material. The judges said that GRP is a product that 'addresses durability and the problem of theft and is a good example of long term development leading to the appropriate certification of the product.'

We also manufacture, supply, install and maintain Intelligent Transport systems to Highways England through a Framework arrangement. Colas products are tested to the highest standards and comply with the latest standards. All of the HE products are "type approved" for use on the motorway network and have proven to be best in class for reliability in the field.
