Tuesday 22nd July was a historic day for both Colas and
Birmingham Airport, as the first direct flight outside London from
China landed using the recently extended runway.
In partnership with VolkerFitzpatrick, Colas added 470 metres of
runway, as well as other works such as re-routing the A45 to allow
for the runway extension.
Paul Kehoe, CEO at Birmingham Airport said: "This is a historic
day for Birmingham, and indeed the Midlands region. Never before
has a commercial airliner touched down on a runway outside of the
Capital from China and we are enormously proud to be the first to
make this happen."
