for us is our first priority. Our safety ethos is founded on the

Our proactive occupational Safety Management System (SMS) is an
integral part of our company culture and ensures that all personnel
are involved with the safety issues related to their work. The SMS
meets the requirements of BS18001 and formalises our long-standing
commitment to the protection of the health and safety of employees
and those who come into contact with our operations. It is designed
to identify and control Health and Safety risks and improve
performance.
Colas are a member of various safety organisations and
committees including ROSPA; The Construction Health, and Safety
Group at , Highways Term Maintenance Associations Safety Forum, QPA
Health and Safety Group and also assist in matters of Safety with
the Road Surface Treatments Association.
Our Health and Safety awards
Our Health and Safety record within the construction and allied
industries is excellent. Our approach to managing and improving our
health and safety system has been recognised over the years by
ROSPA with 8 gold and 5 silver awards. In 2011 we were presented
with a Highly Commended award for Managing Occupational Road Risk
and a Commended award in the Engineering Construction Industry
sector.
Colas have won three awards at the Mineral Product Association's
prestigious Health and Safety Awards 2011. The company was a
runner-up in the category of 'Occupational Good Health' for its
Men's Health Week campaign; was Highly Commended in the 'Worker
Involvement' category for its Operatives Forum; and was Highly
Commended in the 'LGV's and All Company Vehicles: Driver
Safety/Public Safety' category for the installation of the 'Mobile
eye' collision avoidance system in their distribution fleet at
Warrington.
We have also received two Highly Commended and three Gold
Managing Occupational Road Risk (MORR) awards from RoSPA for our
proactive Safe Attitude in Driving (SAID) programme.
