Community Involvement
At Colas we are committed to managing our business in a
responsible and ethical manner and work to make a positive impact
on communities. We promote a culture of social responsibility
throughout our organisation and build effective, open relationships
with the communities in which we operate. Part of Colas' Community
Involvement strategy is to promote social inclusion and develop a
partnership approach with local communities.
We maintain a varied Community Involvement programme including
educational, environmental and charitable activities and encourage
our staff to play an active role whenever possible. We encourage
employees to submit ideas towards how Colas can volunteer time in
doing a community project rather than just offer monetary
donations.
Education
Many of our programmes take place in schools and colleges for
the promotion of our industry, to support education initiatives to
help students prepare for work. We do this by attending careers
events and also by offering work experience programmes.
Safety is our company's number one priority at all times, and
Colas form links with local schools in the areas in which we work
to deliver road safety themed activities aimed at getting children
to be re-think their actions when out on the streets and to learn
how to stay safe.
In addition to its links with schools Colas also has
relationships with a few universities to encourage graduates to
join the Graduate Training Scheme.
Environment
To align with our company strategy on environmental
responsibility, we undertake as many 'green' initiatives as
possible to promote and encourage awareness of our environment and
the impact that we all have on it.
Charity
Colas support a range of charities and sporting initiatives and
focus highly on Road Safety. We sponsor the road safety charity,
BRAKE, and also operate an established internal road safety
programme aimed at highlighting driver awareness to employees;
Safer Attitudes in Driving (SAID).
Our employees are always involved in the selection of our
charities and events. They vote for two charities to support each
year. The company supported Charities for 2011 are Cancer Research
UK and MacMillan Nurses cancer support.
