Wirral team announce external contract win
Colas are pleased to announce a successful bid to provide full carriageway reconstruction in the Wirral, Merseyside.
The new contract will include reconstruction of Brimstage Road from its junction with the M53 through to Brimstage Lane. This amounts to 10,500m2 (1.5 km) of full depth carriageway reconstruction, and will include the replacement of a concrete culvert within its length.
Part of the Wirral TMC, bidding for this contract was extremely competitive with several contractors offering different proposals regarding on site and off site recycling options. Colas’ proposal allowed for a 290mm in-situ recycling option (which impressed clients, Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council) and included a hot rolled asphalt surface course to be applied to the entire works.
The project will involve full road closure with traffic diversions throughout its duration, and works are scheduled to commence in early March 2010 with completion in April 2010.
Colas are also planning to submit this scheme for the C.I.H.T North West Award in the category of Sustainability.
