A-One+ resecure MAC contract to become sector leaders

A-One+, a joint venture formed of Colas, Halcrow and Costain have secured the area 14 MAC contract which covers Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham and North Yorkshire.

The five year contract is worth £115 million and will see A-One + managing and maintaining Area 14’s motorway and trunk road network on behalf of the Highways Agency. It will also include the design and planning of road improvement and renewal schemes, plus bridge and winter maintenance.

Once the initial period is over there is also an option to extend the contract for up to two years.

Area 14 covers 395 miles (635 km) of the north east road network and includes stretches of the A1, A66, A696, A194, A184 and A195.

The contract, which will commence on the 1st July 2010, is a real success story for A-One+; in addition to commencing the new area 14 contract they are also the current operators of Area 10, and last year they successfully secured two further MAC contracts covering Area 7 and 12 – making them the largest provider of highways maintenance in the country.

A-One + Managing Director, Andy Jamieson commented on the award win by saying;

“We are delighted to have been awarded this Contract which secures 5 years work with a blue chip Client and builds on our success in Area 10, 7 and 12.”

And Colas’ Highway Services Director, Adrian Sheppard added;

“The highly successful A-One+ business fits well with the Colas strategy of securing major long term contracts, and further enhances Colas’ profile and growing reputation as the leading highways maintenance contractor within the Highways Agency MAC community.”
