Feb 17Traffic management team secure two contracts
February will see the beginning of two contracts to provide traffic management along major roads near Newcastle – showing that Colas’ traffic management team are very much in demand and that the service is continuing to grow steadily as a business.
The first job managed by A-One (a joint venture between Colas, Halcrow and Costain) on behalf of the Highways Agency and sub-contracted to Ringway Infrastructure services, is to provide temporary traffic management along a stretch of the A1, and will also include the application of temporary road markings. This project (which has already commenced) will see night time lane closures and 24hr narrow lane running both on the north and southbound carriageways - though disruption is being kept to an absolute minimum. It is the first time A-One have worked with Ringway, and they selected the joint venture as sub-contractors after being impressed with their safety statistics, diversity within their team, and the value they can add to the job based on their extensive experience working in the area.
The second job is due to begin on the 22nd of the month. Again it will be managed by A-One on behalf of the Highways Agency and the traffic management sub-contracted to the joint venture by Ringway. For this job A-One will provide the same services as the A1 motorway job, and in addition the company will also design and plan a contra-flow system using high containment vehicle barriers to ensure maximum safety to road users. Lane closures will affect the interchange lane of the A184 and the A194, but once again A-One will work to open the roads as soon as possible. As with the first project, this one was also won based on safety, experience, and a good price.
Together, both contracts are worth around £890,000 and are due to be completed over the course of 34 weeks.
