Bitukold is a cold-applied thixotropic bitumen emulsion used for vertical joints in asphalt and macadam. It is also available as RS Bitukold, a rapid setting grade, ideally suited to vertical joints. Bitukold is designed for the sealing of transverse, longitudinal and vertical joints. Applications include patch repairs, trench reinstatements, drain or manhole frames and kerb channels.

Bitukold
On small patches, Bitukold can be used as a tack coat and joint sealant, thereby saving the need for a separate tack coat. It is not recommended for joints wider than 5mm or for expansion joints in rigid construction where Jointfill A2 should be used or, if a BS2499 product is required, see Coljoint N1 and Coljoint N2. Overbanding should be kept to a minimum. When dried, the hardness of the film is equivalent to 50 PEN bitumen, as required by the DoT Specification for Highway Works. It also meets the requirements of the New Roads and Streetworks Act and conforms with the recommendations contained in BS594: Part 2.
Bitukold is supplied in 15kg resealable plastic buckets. On vertical joints, 1.5kg per square metre gives a dried film thickness of 1mm. For joints 50mm deep, a 15kg bucket covers 200 linear metres of joint.

RS Bitukold
The cationic formulation of RS Bitukold ensures a rapid set, even in cold and damp conditions, with an initial cure taking place within as short a time as 15 minutes. It complies with BS 594: Part 2. RS Bitukold is supplied in 15kg resealable buckets and 750ml aerosol cans. Coverage is normally between 0.7-1.5kg per square metre depending on the porosity and texture of the surface and on the application method.
