Colas Awards 2016

Colas wins double Gold at RoSPA Awards 2016

Colas has been announced as the recipient of two prestigious awards in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2016.

Colas achieved the Gold Medal (7 consecutive Gold Awards) for Health & Safety and Gold Award for Fleet Safety in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

We will be presented with the award during a ceremony at the ExCeL, London, on June 21, 2016, as the event marked its diamond anniversary.

The RoSPA Awards is celebrating 60 years of presenting highly-regarded and sought after accolades to businesses and organisations like Colas, which have shown commitment to accident and ill-health prevention.

Colas wins Fleet Safety Award for commitment to driving at work

Colas has been awarded a Fleet Safety Award in the annual Fleet World Honours for its long-term commitment to raising awareness and managing occupational road risk amongst its employees.

Colas re-launched its Safer Attitudes in Driving campaign as SAID+ in 2015, building on the success of its predecessor, SAID, which started in 2002.

The main objective of SAID and SAID+ has been to reduce the risk of road-related injuries by instilling the fundamental belief that all vehicle incidents are avoidable through a consistent annual training programme, monitoring of company vehicle incident frequency and community involvement initiatives.

The campaign targets all employees within the company and raises awareness to improve staff safety regardless of whether they drive a company vehicle or not.  Since 2002 as a result of the campaign, Colas’ road incident frequency rate has dropped significantly.

In recognition of Colas' performance in implementing excellence and good practice, the company was awarded 5-Star Recognised for Excellence (R4E) in October 2011. This is an award we have retained since.

R4E is a distinctive and prestigious accolade based on the EFQM Excellence Model - the most widely used management framework in Europe. The 5-Star award is testament to Colas' working methods and the dedication of its employees to continuous improvement.

Health and Safety

Colas has won multiple awards and commendations for its health and safety procedures; established over the years into a core company value. Stringent safety management processes, operational procedures, audit facilities, and an effective and efficient business in full compliance with set performance standards and BS18001 have cemented our awards success.

Safety has always been, and will always remain, a first priority for our organisation and we are fully committed to continually improving our safety systems to ensure that our business continues to attract recognition and merit from health and safety awards bodies. All of our safety procedures undergo constant reviews to ensure that best practice is sustained at all times.

Partnership Working

By creating and sustaining mutually beneficial partnerships with local councils and through joint ventures, Colas have received a number of awards. Driven by our presence in Portsmouth through the PFI, we engaged with local communities through various CSR projects and this has added real value to our organisation.

In recognition of our efforts we were awarded the South East England Engineering Excellence Awards 'Community Projects' prize. We also won the 'Highway Contract Partnership' prize at the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards for our partnership with Portsmouth City Council in the successful delivery of the PFI scheme.
