Investors in People Gold Award

Investors in People (IIP) is a management framework for high performance through people. Colas were delighted to be informed we have retained our Investors in People Gold Award status.

Lee Rushbrooke, CEO said: “Investors in People is a very prestigious accreditation in the UK. The fact that we have maintained our Gold Award status shows that we are upholding our high standards, and it continues to demonstrate the importance of our commitment to our people.”

Supplier Recognition Scheme - Highly commended

Highways England has announced the winners of its Supplier Recognition Scheme 2015, with Colas attaining a Highly Commended award. The award was given in the Safety, Health and Wellbeing category – for the Road Workers aspect, awarded to suppliers that show industry leading commitment to improving organisational, workforce and road user health and safety.
John Thompson, Executive Director said: ‘This is a great achievement for Colas which acknowledges our focus on health, safety and well-being.  Many people have contributed to the success of our initiatives but I would like to thank Ryan Wood in particular for his work on this entry.’

RSTA Health and Safety Awards

First place for the Innovations category went to Colas for the initiative to have cameras linked to visual red light warnings for oncoming vehicles to attract drivers’ attention. The audible warning will provide road workers with additional warning and time to leave the danger area.
A-one+ were the overall winners which was also a great achievement for the group.

Second place for The Behavioural Safety category was awarded to Colas for our Safer Attitudes in Driving campaign. Road related safety risk is often overlooked by employers as it can be difficult to manage. The development of 12 commandments was commended as was taking the campaign out into the wider community.

2 Gold RoSPA Awards 2015

Colas Ltd is proud to announce that we are again winners in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2015.

The Gold Medal (6 consecutive Golds) award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) was presented during a ceremony at ExCeL London on June 16 2015.

Pat Sheehan, Health & Safety Manager said: “Once again this is a fantastic achievement for Colas and the fact that we have achieved this Gold award for 6 consecutive awards is a real testament to our health and safety culture.”

Colas Ltd also won Gold for a RoSPA MORR (Managing Occupation Road Risk) award for our SAID+ driver campaign – run by Team Leader Seb Ward.

The awards show the importance of occupational health and safety and raise awareness of a sensible and proportionate approach to managing risks in the workplace.
